This page contains procedures
for Superusers. If you would like to become a superuser, you must
contact the training
coordinator. |

NANOLAB SUPERUSER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use the operating spec to train your users. Train
step by step and don't leave anything out. If there is a problem
with the spec, see lab manager. Specs are on our web page and
should be brought to the training by each trainee if possible.
- You will be asked to train every 3 or 4 months
depending on number of other superusers.
- You may train users in your group at anytime.
You should notify lab manager in advance. There is no credit or
charge (to you) since you are all in same group.
- Send email to Jamie@icsl.ucla.edu with proposed
date and time for your training. Be mindful of classes, downed
equipment etc which may pose a problem for training.
- Groups should include no more than 6 people. Preference
should be for students 1st on the wait list (but not all from
one professor).
- Use the training form to sign up all users. Keep
one copy in the log book for the particular equipment and send
a copy to Jamie.
- Training is done in 2 steps (for more complex
equipment); Step 1 is the superuser demonstrating operation and
how the machine works to a small group. Step 2 is having the trainee
run the machine alone with the superuser watching (this is done
at a different time than step 1). Emphasize using the written
spec; this is not a memory test. The superuser watching does not
need to be the original (step 1) trainer.
- After the user has run the machine successfully
at the 2nd sign off (if required), send Jamie an email and the
user will be put on the authorized user list.
- Superusers get credit for training while users
get charged for training. We must have an accurate list of trainees
and the length of time trained.
- If a student is unable to follow directions, is
extremely careless or does not want to listen, notify the lab
manager for alternate training. Do not approve anyone you are
not comfortable
- Inform Jamie after the training session about
who showed up and how long the session lasted.
- PERK: Superusers receive priority when waiting
to be trained on other machines!!
