Industry Users comprise 30% of our users. It is important that you contact the lab manager to determine whether our facility can meet your needs.

You must complete the following steps in order to become a user:

  1. Signup for the Nanolab Email List. This will allow you to receive important Nanolab information, such as down equipment, lab closure, training sessions, etc…
  2. Attend the optional Orientation session. Handouts for the orientation session can be found on the right(powerpoint handouts).
  3. Fill out the Indemnity Form.
  4. Complete the Toxic Gas Acknowledgement Form.
  5. You must pass the Safety test. The test will cover topics found in the Nanolab Lab Usage Guide and in the orientation session. The schedule for the safety test will be arranged by the lab manager at your convenience. You must also bring the completed Indemnity Form, Toxic Gas Acknowledgement Form, and any other documents required by the lab manager to the safety test. You can not take the test until all paperwork is completed.
  6. Once you have passed the safety test, you must attend a walkthrough session. The schedule (usually on a Friday) for the walkthrough session will be arranged by the lab manager at your convenience. You will also receive your badge at the end of the walkthrough session.

Once you have become a user and received your badge ID, you will have to complete the following steps:

  1. Read the Nanolab Training Process.
  2. Log into the equipment reservation system (your password will be “nanolab”) and fill out the Personal Information form. This step is important if you wish to add your name to the equipment training waitlist.
  3. For each equipment you wish to be trained, add your name to the waitlist for that equipment
  4. Please check the equipment training list to see which equipments require a second qualifying training in order to be authorized to use the equipment.
  5. The training coordinator will announce equipment training sessions through the Nanolab Email List. Make sure you are signed up for the email list so you can receive these announcements. Priority for training will given to those people who are on the waitlist.
  6. You may also bypass waiting for training sessions if someone in your group is a superuser for the machine you wish to be trained on. Just have the superuser contact the training coordinator to setup a training session and you can get trained right away.
  7. Once are you signed up for a training session, you must attend the training session or notify the training coordinator 1 day in advance so that your spot can be reassigned to someone else. If you fail to notify the training coordinator, you will be blacklisted for that equipment and will receive lowest priority when the next training session is announced.
  8. Once you are trained on an equipment, your status on the equipment reservation system will change and you will be authorized to use the equipment in the Nanolab. All equipment guidelines can be found here.
  9. Remember to be safe in the Nanolab and if you ever have any questions or problems, please email or call the staff.
